At First Baptist church we believe that the Bible is God's holy Word (2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21). We believe that holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit and that the Bible has all that mankind needs that pertains to life and Godliness.
We believe in the Self existent creator God who created the universe and all that it contains in six literal days (Genesis 1-3). This God is the only true and living God and He exists in three co-equal persons; the Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit, yet these three are one.
We believe that mankind was created on the sixth day in God's image and likeness setting man apart from all other life forms. God placed man in the Garden of Eden giving him just one rule, to not eat of a particular tree. Mankind willingly chose to disobey God. We believe that all men are sinful by nature and by choice (Rom. 3:23). Because God is holy and cannot allow sin into His presence and because He is just and must punish sin, a great gulf has been fixed between man and God (Rom. 6:23a).
We believe that God is not only Holy and just but He is also love. God in His love set in motion His plan to allow man a way to be reconciled to Himself. This plan was the only plan to satisfy His wrath and give man an opportunity to be reconciled. This plan would require a sinless substitutionary sacrifice. God would send His only Son, Jesus Christ, to bear the sin of the world on a cross.
We believe that Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, conceived by the Holy Spirit, and lived a sinless life as a man; yet, never ceased to be God. Jesus Christ willingly laid down His life and shed His blood on a cross that was meant for you and I as sinners (John 3:16).
We believe man cannot earn His salvation and is completely incapable of saving himself (Titus 3:5; Ephesians 2:8-9). We believe that the only way one can obtain salvation is through repentance (change of mind which brings about a change in direction 1 Thes. 1:9) and receiving the free gift of salvation by faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. At the moment a person believes he/she is born again (Jn. 3:3-16) and is indwelt permanently by the Holy Spirit. This believer is gauranteed eternal life in the presence of God in heaven.
We believe that those who reject the plan of salvation will spend eternity in a real literal place called Hell (Heb. 9:27). Thus we reject the doctrine of "pugatory" or the doctrine of second chance.
We believe that God saves not just so we can avoid Hell, but so we would live a life pleasing to Him through the power of the Holy Spirit which indwells every believer at the moment of salvation and is our gaurantee, thus we believe in the security of the believer.
We believe the next event on God's prophetic calendar is the rapture of the Church (1 Thes 4:13-18).
